Hiking and Biking Trails

Hiking or biking is the perfect outdoor activity to do as a family. Green Lake boasts many trails, whether you’re looking for a relaxing ride or something more intense.

Head over to the Green Lake Conference Center to bike along Shore Drive. Soak in the beautiful lakefront views and historic houses, or bike along a tree-lined path.

For a 24-mile bike route, head to Loop the Lake. This trail follows the perimeter of Green Lake and takes you through the picturesque scenery surrounding it.

Check out Dawson Prairie to stretch your legs. It’s 54 acres of restored lands, with mowed trails winding through native grasses and wildflowers. From late spring through September, watch for other wildlife, such as birds, deer, and butterflies, during peak bloom season.

Hammers Trail is just over half a mile for a short hike and features five bridges over several springs and creeks. The Norwegian Bay Boardwalk is around the same length and is a trail through the largest area of wetlands in Green Lake. If you want to explore an area, Pool’s Hill Nature Preserve offers a free exploration of the wetlands.

Water Activities

As the deepest lake in Wisconsin, Green Lake is perfect for water skiing and any type of boat. Rent a pontoon or fishing boat to spend the day on the water. If something nonmotorized is more your style, grab a stand-up paddleboard to explore the lake.

Green Lake offers many places to rent a kayak or canoe. They will provide everything you need, including instructions and life jackets.

Little Green Lake is ideal for muskies and smallmouth bass fishing. At Big Green Lake, bluegill are aplenty. Before you head out on either lake to fish, get a fishing license from the county clerk’s office or one of the outdoor stores.
